So I did this in my Special needs class because I like to be as extra as possible for my Halloween classes so there's not much by way of actual English learning but if you wanted to do this for a higher level one idea I had was to give each group a task they have to make the trick or treat-er do instead of just playing rock, paper scissors.
Pre-lesson prep: Cut out the mask templates and print the stickers (I used sticker paper but you could just use normal paper and some glue sticks). Sort the stickers into 6 envelopes (each type of sticker should be in it's own envelope. I also bought 6 sets of Halloween hats and wands.
So basically step one was that I gave a quick Halloween presentation and explained trick or treating (I let them watch a video from Rocko's Modern Life).
Then I tell them that they get to go trick or treating so first thing is they need some costumes. At this point I give them all a blank mask template (I found one on the internet pretty quickly) and about 10-20 mins to decorate.
While this is happening I give every student a Halloween sticker race sheet and set up 6 piles containing one set of stickers, a Halloween hat and wand.
Have the students make groups and decide an order.
One person from each group comes up and selects a set to take back to their group.
The first student in each group puts on their mask, hat and holds the wand.
They go to another groups and say 'trick or treat' then play janken with someone. If they win they get a sticker but if they lose they just have to move on to the next group.
The student does this to three groups (win or lose) and then has to go back to their own group and give the Halloween hats to the next person.
The first group with all students finished is the winner.
