Three Hint Quiz

Hi everyone!

This is a three-hint quiz I made for my special needs class. It's for reviewing the third person singular and can/cannot. You could also use this for first-year students, but maybe just take out some or all of the Japanese.

Two Truths and a Lie

Hi everyone!

As I explained yesterday, this is an activity that I did for third-year students, but I actually started doing this activity with my first- and second-year students in the English club, so you can be flexible with the grammar.

Anyway, I first use myself as an example and I tell them three things about myself and then I have them guess which one is a lie. I also go over each sentence to make sure that they understand. I made three quizzes about myself, but you can make more or less, if you want.

If I Had a Million Dollars

It's time for the most celebrated Canadian rock band of the mid-nineties to make an appearance.

This is pretty self explanatory, Powerpoint that lets you point out how it sounds when people say If I~ I would statements in a song, then the students get to tell you about things they would do with lots and lots of money.

Lets introduce the students to Sondheim's masterpiece, Into the Woods!

There's two portions to this game: a powerpoint and a game.

Order of Adjectives lesson

Order of Adjectives - Filler lesson

So you want to show the students that English has actual rules around order of adjectives so it doesn’t make them unnecessarily frustrated later? This is the lesson for you.

There’s two portions, the double sided worksheet and the powerpoint.
The powerpoint uses the song “purple people eater” as an example. The worksheet is for a tangentially related activity.

Drama Games

Hi everyone,

Here is the activity share I shared with you all at the ALT meeting about the drama games I use at school!

These are great introduction and closing games, good for review lesson big quiz type games and good for English club!

The rules are pretty straight forward to most of them, but sure if you google the names of individual ones, you might find more of an explanation!

Enjoy!

Ashley's Lucky Number Reward System

Here's a thorough explanation of my lucky number reward system that I explained at the BOE meeting.

The Preparation:Write the numbers 1 to however is the most amount of kids in a class on paper, laminate, and cut (For example: 1-35). You don't have to laminate it if you don't have a laminating machine but if you do I recommend it. Once you have your cards put them in a "Lucky Bag."

Halloween Powerpoints

Here are my Halloween powerpoints that I showed at the last BOE meeting for those who wanted to check them out for reference. I've uploaded both the 'introductory' and 'review' versions.

For the review powerpoint (targeted towards third years) you can incorporate it with a general review game such as typhoon or points games.

How many pens?

This activity is pretty much a copy of the one they used in the Hi Friends textbook in elementary school, but apparently a lot of students don't remember it, or bothered to care about it at the time.

First, it'd be good to refresh how to count to 15 in English. Then on the worksheet, the students color in a random number of pens, but it has to be at least one pen. Make sure they don't let other people see their worksheet. Give them a time limit for their coloring.

We call it~ British vs American English

This was my lesson that I used for the grammar "We call it~" or as the example in the book says, "We call the dog Pochi."

I first introduced some terms that we would say differently in English, such as 'potato/french fries,' '31 ice cream vs Baskin Robbins,' 'hamburg vs hamburger steak." I asked them for the Japanese version then I would say what we call them in English.
