Dobble / Spot-It

This is a speed matching card game.

  • The deck I’ve been using was taken from ALTopedia here.

The deck has 57 cards, and each card is a unique combination of 8 pictures. However, there is guaranteed to be one matching picture between any two cards in the deck, and this is the basis of the game.

Colours Through Bingo and Word Search Puzzles

Two part exercise that uses visual cues, pattern recognition puzzles, and bingo to teach Yuaai students the names of colours.

First you explain each of the colours and have the students repeat it after you (breaking down the pronunciation to syllables for multi-syllable sounds like in-di-go, vi-o-let, kha-ki, etc). The worksheets should be printed in colour so that you can use it as a visual aid to demonstrate what each of the colours are and what the name is.

Castles

First put them into lunch groups and give them a jumbled up castle. Tell them to put it together and ask one or two students to then put it on the board. Point out which colour castle belongs to which group.

Who is it?

Before class I prepared an envelope for each student which had 13 pictures of famous western celebrities in it eg. Rhianna, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jay Leno, Nicki Minaj, Danny Devito.. (I tried to pick celebs who had distinctive features).
